Google Maps user find ‘sunken boat’ near island coast but others are unconvinced

An explosive row has erupted in the far corners of the internet over whether an unidentified submerged object is a car or a boat.

On a Reddit forum dedicated to the study of Google Maps, one user posted a photo of Fresh Creek on Andros Island, Bahamas

In the middle of the shot, a large rectangular object can be seen beneath the waves, however precisely what it remains unclear.

The original poster kicked off the discussion by calmy asserting: "This is a sunken boat, right?"

But tragically the poster found little agreement with others shooting back that it looked more like a "sunken sedan."

Precisely how the car ended up underwater is unclear.

The island has no notable road or ram to make the jump 'Starksy & Hutch' style which led many people to believe it had been dumped.

One said: "I agree with that theory, but why there's a car in the creek baffles me considering there's no road near it from what I can see."

"Definitely a car… let's hope it's just abandoned…", said one person spookily.

Another argued: "Obviously one of the Andros island rentals, it’s right there at the bottom of the picture."

  • 'I was trapped underground for 54 hours – I feared I'd never make it out alive'

As a theory, it's not improbable, but why a car rental company, or an owner, would sink one of its own vehicles so internet nerds could debate its providence remains to be seen.

In the most cumbersome theory on the thread, one user even tried to assert it was the remains of the Pretoria which sank in 1929 citing the lyrics to Arlo Guthrie's “Run Come See Jerusalem" as proof.

And of course, it wouldn't be an internet forum without a contrarian poking fun of the discovery for a quick gag.

"On first look, it seemed like a slipper!", they laughed smugly.

It's clearly not a slipper, we've already established it's likely a sedan from a rental company or a long since sunken pirate ship.

Keep up.
