It really wouldn’t be the internet without a new bizarre trend making waves on social media.

Not to be outdone, TikTok has managed to make tens of thousands of fans google “how did Dora the Explorer die?”

The trend has left fans scratching their heads, as many social media users offer their own explanations.

These range from seemingly innocent jokes to deadly premonitions, including brutal deaths with drowning a strangely consistent theme.

Truly, nothing is safe from the internet's twisted sense of humour and poor Dora is facing the brunt of it right now.

Separating fact from fiction can be difficult at times, but the truth behind this trend is a simple one.

Why is ‘how did Dora the Explorer die’ trending?

It all started with one TikTok video that immediately went viral.

TikToker @talialopes_ posted a clip on May 28 in which she wrote: “Record yourself before and after searching ‘how did Dora die?’”

The video is typical TikTok material, with the first half just showing her lipsynching to background music.

However, the second half – after she has supposedly googled the question – sees her looking shocked with her mouth open and completely speechless.

Curious followers were quick to the comments, with over 7,000 people replying to her post.

Is Dora the Explorer actually dead?

A quick cursory google search might lead you to believe Dora is actually dead.

A Fandom.com page, ListOfDeaths, shared a seemingly fake episode of Dora the Explorer titled Dora No More.

According to the synopsis, Dora is killed 17 times, with some of the horrific deaths including being “disintegrated by lightning”, “knocked into a sewer and drowned” and “pushed into quicksand by Boots”.

However, no such episode ever aired, with the show coming to an end around the time the live action movie Dora And The Lost City Of Gold was released.

The film sees our titular hero continuing her heroic adventures into her teenage years, and no, she doesn’t die in the movie.

However, with a Winnie the Pooh horror movie in the works, anything is possible for Dora in the future.
