Inside abandoned morgue with embalming room that’s set to become ‘spooky Airbnb’

  • An abandoned morgue complete with original embalming room is set to become a “spooky themed Airbnb”.

    The creepy property attracted a bidding war which saw the hammer come down at £137,000, more than double the £55,000 estimate by John Pye Auctions.

    Despite the warning that the dilapidated building in Leek, Staffordshire, was in need of full refurbishment, or even demolition, the former mortuary attracted more bidders.

    The building – which was last used to tend the dead 20 years ago – went under the hammer on Thursday to an unnamed buyer.

      The eerie former morgue was listed with a guide price of just £55,000 by John Pye Auctions. Some buyers said they wanted to convert the building into a "spooky themed Airbnb".

      The buyer, who has not been named, has not revealed what they plan to do with the building and half-an-acre of surrounding land. The ghostly-looking lot will require extra cash in order for the building to be habitable as it currently requires a complete renovation.
