A filmmaker who took portraits of the famous 'Deliverance inbred' Whittaker family in the USA has explained how he’d never seen humans like them before.
Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast Mark Laita, the creator of video project Soft White Underbelly, explained how after taking portraits of the family he had to stop on his drive home to process what he had experienced.
He was taking the portraits for his book Created Equal when he experienced the family for the first time and was shocked by what he found there.

Mark had been taking photos of the family, presumed to be inbred, in 2004, but was taken aback by the experience that confronted him.
He said: “We pack up and we leave and I gave them the prints and I gave them some money as well.
“We’re driving away and Axel – before he got on the highway again – I said ‘dude you just gotta pull over the car.
“‘I just gotta soak in what just happened. That was the craziest s*** I’ve ever seen.’

“I’ve never seen human beings like that, that’s like being on another planet.
“That was the craziest thing ever.”
Mark’s first visit to meet the family came in stark contrast to later visits though.
As the Daily Star has previously reported, the Whittaker family has since been revisited by Mark.
In a new video posted by Mark on his Soft White Underbelly channel, the family appear to be in better health, and many internet users have been quick to point out why they think that might be the case.
One user wrote: “Something really stands out from the first video to now.
“They each have a spark in their eye they didn't have in the first video. They each have a smile now.
“I can't help but believe it is due to your friendship, kindness and generosity and of course those who donate to them has helped immensely as well.”
Another user said they “seem to be happier than they were before and jovial,” and added: “They are really doing so much better since your first visit with them.”
