A snow storm sparked chaos across the UK today (Monday, December 12) after the country was blanketed yesterday evening – but some Brits have chosen to enjoy the harsh and challenging conditions.

The runways at Gatwick and Stansted were "temporarily closed" late last night due to the arrival of heavy snow which has since affected many areas across the UK.

While travel plans for those trying to fly from UK airports, or even trying to drive to the shops, were ravaged by the snow, one man channelled his inner Wim Hof as he stripped down to just shorts and a balaclava to brave the snow for a late run in North London last night.

Taking to Instagram to share a video of himself exercising in the extreme weather, personal trainer Yusef Bouattoura left viewers in complete shock as his daily grind didn't stop despite the freezing conditions.

In the video, the Instagrammer powered through the heavy snowfall. Captioning the post, Yusef wrote: "I’m just having fun in my home town!

"All praise to the most high."

And train services' social media teams had a very busy morning detailing what routes would take several hours of melting snow to open up again.

But some passengers opted for a novel way to pass the time as they waited for delayed services to get them to work.

A hilarious clip on Twitter shows passengers at West Ham station in East London having a snowball fight from opposite sides of the track.

In what looked like a scene from a primary school dodgeball game, commuters did not hold back as they threw their snowballs at their targets on the opposite platforms.

Many roads have also been closed and some motorists on the M25 were trapped in their cars for hours.

But as traffic ground to a halt on the A406 in Central London, one motorist decided to pass the time by building a snowman in the middle of the road.

Motorists are being warned of travel disruption and road closures, with commuters in some areas urged not to drive at all unless absolutely necessary.

The scenes in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, yesterday support this move, after a video went viral of cars and a bus sliding around the roads and crashing into bollards.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for areas of the country impacted by snowfall, including the South East, West Midlands and the North East.

But even still, some hardy swimmers couldn't resist a dip in Hyde Park's Serpentine on Friday, before conditions worsened.

Pictures show the brave swimmers out for an early morning dip at 7am in the west London lido.
