French officials are ramping up their use of intimidation tactics and “language of force” in a bid to gain access to British waters. Recent months have seen the French hold the Channel Islands hostage, threatening to cut energy access in response to insufficient fishing licenses issued to French boats. Annick Girardin, France’s Minister of the Sea, has now told a French radio station the country is ready to take a stand and “defend” the rights of French fishermen with tariffs and sanctions targetting the British public.
