A disgusted McDonald's customer has claimed they were nearly sick after they discovered that the egg inside their breakfast meal was "grey" and apparently mouldy.
Kym Kirkham, 32, had treated herself to a McDonald's breakfast item but noticed the discolouration after taking a couple bites of her sausage and egg McMuffin.
The teacher, from Manchester, said she noticed that the egg was "grey" after the first few bites and was "nearly sick" after making the discovery.
McDonald's has denied that the egg was mouldy, saying that this was impossible and claimed instead that the egg's grey colouring was due to a chemical reaction.
Kirkham said: "I only noticed after I'd taken a couple of bites. I was nearly sick. I don't recall the taste. I was too freaked out. I thought it was mouldy."
The teacher took her grey-looking McMuffin egg back to staff at the Stoke-on-Trent branch of McDonald's, where Kym claims staff threw away her breakfast meal and offered her a replacement McMuffin.
She declined the offer, saying: "I couldn't eat it though because I felt so sick after."
Since the incident, Kym has said she couldn't get in touch with customer services at McDonald's, who claim the appearance is a natural chemical reaction, The Mirror reported.

A spokesperson for the restaurant said: "At McDonald’s all the eggs we use across our breakfast menu are freshly cracked, cooked and served in a short space of time, meaning it is simply not possible for us to serve eggs that are mouldy.
"Discolouration when cooking eggs is caused by a natural reaction between the hydrogen sulphide in the egg white and the iron in the yolk.
"As soon as the customer made the restaurant aware that she was not happy with the product our team replaced it with another freshly prepared McMuffin.
"We are sorry that the customer was not satisfied and we’d encourage her to contact our Customer Services team."
