A former Army bloke faked his own death after finding out he was being charged for sex offence crimes.
Jacob Blair Scott, of Jackson County, US, was slapped with a 21-month prison term yesterday (November 28) on three federal charges of faking his own death.
He was already serving an 85-year term for sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl, resulting in her getting pregnant.

But just before two years before he was due to be sentenced for that horrific act, he was found making a false distress call, illegally sending a weapon across state lines and giving false information – as well as faking his own death.
He pleaded guilty to the charges this week and was given an extra 21 months on top of his already huge term.
He was also ordered to pay around £15,000 to the Coast Guard to cover the costs of them having to use various resources to “find him”, despite not being dead.
In early 2020, they dispatched a 45-metre fast patrol boat, complete with tons of sonar and satellite equipment, in an attempt to find and rescue him somewhere off the coast of Pensacola after getting the distress call.
The team went out into the Gulf water near Orange Beach, Alabama, too.
The small dingy he was in was found there, around a mile off-shore, along with a semi-automatic pistol.

It was empty, bar the gun and a suicide note, telling family members not to change their mobile numbers for a full year.
He was eventually captured in early 2020 at an RV park in Oklahoma, where he was found to be living under another name.
He'll never be looked for again having been given a near 100-year prison term, with all the terms given running concurrently.
During his time in the military, he was given a Purple Heart medal for injuries he received while serving in Iraq in 2011.
