A mum was left horrified after her ShutEye app picked up a creepy male voice while she was sleeping alone.
Robyn Esplin, 28, lives in Cramlington, Northumberland with just her eight-year-old son and their two dogs.
At around 1.10am on Tuesday (April 26) the sleeping app on her phone recorded a Cockney-sounding voice whispering: "Can I rip the sheets down?"
After the sinister voice Robyn's pug Alan can be heard barking before the recording stops.
Robyn, who had only downloaded the app on the Monday after seeing it advertised on Facebook, now says she's terrified to sleep in her own house, reports ChronicleLive.
She said: "I don't know whether to laugh or cry, it's totally freaked me out and I'm going to be scared to go to sleep now.
"It's definitely a man's voice, it's clear as day, but there's no one here that it could have been and I don't know anyone with a Cockney accent.
"What's getting me is that's definitely Alan's bark at the end of the clip so he's heard something in order to bark because if there's any sort of noise he'll start yapping away."
The case administrator said she downloaded ShutEye as she was struggling with sleep. The app can record an individual's quality of sleep as well as any disturbances during the night.
When she checked it in the morning it had recorded a number of additional disturbances including her waking up at around 4am and 13 clips of Alan snoring – all of which she explained were accurate recordings.
However, she was unable to account for the man's voice and even contacted ShutEye to ask if they had reports of similar unexplained disturbances. She is yet to receive a response.
She continued: "I saw the recording under 'sleep talking' and it took me ages to work out what it said, but now I realise what it said it's clear as day.
"It's only me that's in the bedroom and I have two small dogs and my son, who was asleep in his own room. The TV wasn't on or anything so I'm totally freaked out.
"I've Googled it and tried to do some research into the app to see if it's a glitch that has happened to a lot of people, but absolutely nothing comes up. The sleep app itself is rated as number one and accuracy is said to be above 90%."
She is now planning on setting up a camera in her home in the hope of working out what caused the mysterious recording.
She explained that all the doors in her home were locked overnight and that nothing appears to have been moved inside the house.
