A video of a scorpion lurking in a bunch of supermarket bananas has freaked out people watching on TikTok – with many confessing they were put off the fruit for life.
In the clip, uploaded by user @bugboy19, he is standing next to a crate of bananas that appears to be the temporary home of a creepy-crawly.
Long black antennae are sticking out and, when the person zooms in, you can see the scorpion resting on top of one of the bunches of yellow fruit.
The TikToker then picks up the bug and holds it under the camera, revealing it is dark brown and has six legs and a pair of powerful pinchers.
He then puts the bug back on the bananas and weighs them, before paying for them at the self-service check out with the creature still on board as a stowaway.
It's then carried home in a plastic shopping bag along with the bananas, presumably to live in captivity as part of the TikToker's impressive collection of exotic pets.
The bug was identified by viewers as a whip scorpion, a fairly popular pet, and it seems unlikely it found its way onto the bananas without help.
"I love checking the new bananas for friends," said the TikToker in the caption of the video which has since been watched 1.5million times.
One user commented: "Nope, nope, nope, nope. Don't want Bananas anymore."
"That would have been the last time I showed up to buy bananas," admitted a second viewer, obviously not a fan of whip scorpions.
A third commented: "The way you just weighed it with the bananas."
"Yano… you didn't have to weigh it….would have been cheaper," joked someone else.
Another curious user asked: "How much did the bug cost?"
