NASA recruiting former astronauts to explain over 150 mysterious UFO sightings

NASA has enlisted two former astronauts to help explain over 150 historic UFO sightings.

Astronaut Scott Kelly, who has spent nearly a year in space, is one of 16 team members who will be tasked with looking through unclassified data of UFOs to help the space agency understand what was behind them.

The study will launch on Monday and will last for nine months with the team expected to share their discoveries in mid 2023.

It follows the first US congressional hearings in 50 years that showed 144 different videos of UFOs seen by the military over the past two decades.

The team will include experts in data and AI who will pool their knowledge together to try and solve the mysterious sightings.

The NASA official responsible for orchestrating the study is Daniel Evans said: "NASA has brought together some of the world's leading scientists, data and artificial intelligence practitioners, aerospace safety experts, all with a specific charge, which is to tell us how to apply the full focus of science and data to UAP."

"The findings will be released to the public in conjunction with NASA's principles of transparency, openness, and scientific integrity," he continued.

NASA has continually denied there is any evidence of alien life in the form of UFOs.

Thomas Zurbuchen, the associate administrator for science at NASA Headquarters in Washington, said: "NASA believes that the tools of scientific discovery are powerful and apply here also.

"We have access to a broad range of observations of Earth from space – and that is the lifeblood of scientific inquiry."

The subject of UFOs has always been a hot topic of debate, but hopes of a genuine alien life-form sighting have piqued following congress passing a new law to create the task force.

NASA has previously stated that the UFO sightings could be 'airborne clutter' such as escaped balloons or plastic bags, or even the result of natural phenomena caused by extreme weather.
