‘Naughty elves’ threaten to sabotage Coca-Cola Christmas truck tour

Activists are set to wreak havoc at every single Coca-Cola Christmas Truck Tour date across the UK, the Daily Star can exclusively reveal.

For many Brits, nothing says Christmas is nearly here quite like Coca-Cola's "Holidays are coming" jingle on TV and the sight of the brand's giant red lorry.

But thousands of children could be left disappointed if Plastics Rebellion get their way.

The group has vowed to gatecrash every step of this year's tour by dressing up as 'naughty elves' to take on the fizzy pop Santa.

They are protesting against the company being the world's largest plastic producer four years in a row between 2018 and 2021 in audits by monitor Break Free From Plastic.

The group who forced Coca-Cola into scrapping its stop off at The O2 Arena in London three years ago, hope to have the entire UK tour axed to wage war against plastics.

A spokesperson for Plastics Rebellion told the Daily Star: "The last thing, believe me, any of us want to do is stick on a pair of elf shoes and turn up in the cold and p**s off a bunch of kids and angry parents. It's really, really not how I want to spend my life.

"I'd like to spend my life living in an environment that's safe and healthy for everyone but Coca-Cola and companies like them undermine the possibility of that happening."

She warned: "I have no idea at this point how much support there might be for an action like this but let's just say I suspect it will be massive."

The Daily Star approached the campaigners after reading their alarming post on Twitter in response to the drinks giant sponsoring this year's COP27.

The conference being sponsored by Coca-Cola has been condemned as an example of ‘greenwashing’ by Greenpeace and other advocacy groups.

Plastics Rebellion tweeted: "Following their sponsorship of COP27, we have a feeling that this year there will be even more of us elves turning up to Coca-Cola’s festive UK truck tour to put them on the naughty list!

"Wouldn’t it be terrible if they had to cancel the tour like they did a couple of years ago?"

"It's for all the dates," the activist group's spokesperson told the Daily Star about their demonstration plans.

She added: "They should be worried because I'm sure they're aware of the global backlash and revulsion at the fact that they have already sponsored COP27.

"So it would be nice wouldn't it to think deep down some of the people who work there actually have a conscience and maybe don't sleep too easy at night with or without our protests because of what they're doing to the planet.

"We are a direct action group dedicated to the scourge of pointless plastics, you don't get much more pointless than a bottle of Coca-Cola."

The Daily Star has approached Coca-Cola for a comment and will keep readers posted on dates and locations for the legendary Christmas Truck Tour.
