A tsunami warning has been put in effect for numerous countries in Southeast Asia and Oceania, after a powerful earthquake struck Loyalty Island on Wednesday afternoon.
An earthquake struck the Southeast of Loyalty Islands at 1.20pm on Wednesday February 10, it’s been confirmed.
It was 20 miles deep, and measured 7.9 on the Richter scale.
Based on the earthquake parameters, widespread tsunami waves are possible, warned Unesco.
The tsunami waves could arrive at any point over the next three hours.
A tsunami warning has been put in effect for:
- Vanuatu
- New Caledonia
- Fiji
- Kermadec Islands
- New Zealand
- Tonga
- Soloman Islands
- Wallis and Futuna
- Tuvalu and Niue
