These astonishing pictures and video shows real UFO encounters taken by US Navy personnel, which could be discussed in a bombshell hearing today.

For the first time in more than 50 years, the US Congress will discuss the "national security" risks posed by UFOs this afternoon.

They will focus on the "national security risks" and, according to Politico, there are even more witnesses yet to come forward.

Intelligence officials at the Pentagon are expected open up their real-life X Files when they are grilled by Congress on what they know about aliens.

Ahead of the hearing, Daily Star has looked back at some of the US Navy's most astonishing UFO encounters.

Pentagon UFO videos

A collection of three videos leaked by the New York Times in 2017 first shed light on the Pentagon's secretive UFO programme.

Taken by US Navy fighter jets who had flown from aircraft carriers USS Nimitz and USS Theodore Roosevelt in 2004, 2014 and 2015, they were officially released and verified by the Pentagon in 2020.

In November 2004, fighter pilot Commander David Fravor of the USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group said he had investigated radar indications of a potential target off the coast of southern California.

He said that the USS Princeton had been tracking unusual aircraft, which would appear at 80,000 feet, descend quickly towards the sea, before stopping at 20,000 feet, and hovering.

According to a 2019 study, the craft was estimated to be travelling at speeds of 46,000mph.

Fravor said he saw an object which was white and oval hovering above a disturbance in the sea. When he went down to get closer to it, it ascended, mirroring his plane, and then disappeared.

A second wave of fighters took off from Nimitz to investigate, and their encounter was filmed on an advanced infrared camera. They filmed the FLIR video, and the GIMBAL and GOFAST videos were filmed in 2014 to 2015, of unknown aerial objects which have not been identified.

Pyramid-shaped UFO

The Pentagon also confirmed footage of flashing, triangle-shaped objects that flew over an American warship was real.

The photos and videos were distributed by documentary filmmaker Jeremy Corbell and George Knapp, a Las Vegas journalist who covers UFO-related stories.

They include night-vision footage taken at sea, grainy infrared images and smartphone photos.

The footage, filmed from the deck of the USS Russell, shows unidentified flashing triangles off the cost of San Diego.

In April 2021, The Pentagon confirmed that the leaked photos and videos were captured by US Navy personnel, but it didn't label them UFOs.

USS Omaha sighting

The UFO community was shook to the core once more in May 2021, when Jeremy released footage seemingly showing submerging into the water.

It was taken by the Combat Information Centre of the USS Omaha on July 15, 2019, and no wreckage of the unknown craft was recovered.

A submarine was even reportedly deployed to hunt for the UFO but found nothing.

It appears to prove the theory that many of the UFOs encountered by US Navy officials are transmedium vehicles – meaning they can operate both in the area and underwater.

“They can move from one medium [air] to the next [sea] with ease,” Jeremy previously told Daily Star.

The filmmaker, who has previously produced documentaries for Netflix, has told this site in the past that US Navy officials have discussed the possibility that UFOs are coming from an underwater base.

“As you would have an embassy in a foreign land, it is possible that there's a congregation or a station or a location underwater, where UFOs could be transiting from once they're here, wherever they come from,” he said.

“That is a possibility that UFOs are transiting from a localised place underneath the water.”

UFOs disable nuclear missiles

In 1966, now-retired captain David Schindele served as a nuclear missile launch control officer, at Minor Air Force Base, in North Dakota.

Mr Schindele, who only told his story in 2021 after keeping it as a "terrible secret" for the better part of 60 years, said that he visited a missile launch site in September 1966. It was there that eight other airmen said that 10 missiles had all gone down when an 80 to 100-foot wide flying object, complete with bright flashing lights, had hovered over the site.

In October 2021, the ageing veteran visited Washington DC to lay down his story at the National Press Club conference. He was joined by fellow veterans Robert Salas and Robert Jacobs.

Each veteran had the same claim, although their exact experience of aliens tampering with nuclear weapons managed by the Air Force differed. Many were told to stay silent for decades, according to Military.com.

Robert Salas was a first lieutenant at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana in 1967. He alleges that while he was underground in the missile control room, the flight security controller called him from aboveground, panicking.

In an affidavit, Salas wrote: "He said there was a large glowing, pulsating red oval-shaped object hovering over the front gate." Alarms then went off showing nearly all of the 10 missiles had been disabled.

Robert Jacobs, from Missouri, was stationed at Vandeberg Air Force Base in California in 1964. He was asked to film an Atlas rocket test. Instead, he caught footage of a "disc-shaped craft" which flew up to the warhead over the Pacific Ocean, and shot it with several beams of light. Salas then says that the footage was cut and taken by two men in grey suits – and his commander ordered him not to talk about it.

All three elderly men still stand by their stories, although they have not been proven. As reported by Military.com Mr Jacobs said: "Have we been ignored? For God sakes, we've been shut up and silenced.

"We've been ridiculed; we've had our lives disrupted. This is more than just being ignored. We've been treated like imbeciles."
