Real-life Mulder quit US Government after they refused to listen to UFO warnings

A real-life Fox Mulder will tell on Tuesday night (May 2) how he quit the US Government after defence chiefs refused to listen to his warnings that UFOs are real.

Former counter-intelligence special agent Luis Elizondo was recruited to head up a secret US Defence Department unit called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program – or AATIP – set up to probe sightings of unknown craft by military personnel.

The role mirrored fictional FBI special agent Mulder’s in hit TV series The X Files.

Luis tells a TV documentary he obtained video footage of a UFO buzzing Top Gun pilots on a training exercise near the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz off southern California in 2004.

Pilots who witnessed it said the craft – a 40ft-long Tic Tac-shaped object with no wings, windows or engine – performed out-of-this-world high speed manoeuvres of which no human-made jet was capable.

Luis said he repeatedly attempted to brief the Secretary Of Defence about the sighting but was rebuffed – leading to him resigning a distinguished career in counter-intelligence.

He tells National Geographic documentary series *UFOs: Investigating The Unknown – which starts Tuesday: "Sometimes if you want to help the system you have to leave the system to do it.

  • US Government 'using UFO material from 1940s to secretly make scientific advances'

"When you hear the term `UFO’ I think a lot of people think of little green men and Elvis on the mothership and tin foil hats.

"In reality what we are talking about are real objects that are being encountered over controlled US airspace, in some cases very sensitive locations, performing in ways that frankly we can’t understand.

"These pilots are not only trained observers but they are some of the best aircraft pilots on the planet operating some of the most sophisticated weapons systems on the planet.*

"When they are telling you that they have encountered something that they cannot describe that impacts our national security and our ability to respond to perceived threat we have to take their testimony seriously.’’

Luis said the mystery craft flew at 13,000mph – way faster than the US Air Force’s 3,200mph *Lockheed *SR*-*71* `Blackbird’ superjet – and made instant 90-degree turns.

He said he was regularly called up to the Defence Secretary’s suite to brief senior staff about the videos and radar evidence backed by up eyewitness pilot accounts.

But the information never reached the defence chief.

"It’s kind of a code of ethic with us in government," he said.

"If you can’t fix a problem internally then you leave – which is ultimately what I had to do.’’

US defence chiefs are now probing 650 reported close encounters between UFOs and military personnel dating back to WW2.
