Scientists have made cyborg rats to help the army with intelligence surveillance and recovery operations.
The bizarre creations have been made by a team at the Young Scientists Laboratory in Hyderabad, India.
These rodents have been given tiny camera hats so that they can be guided around mazes using “semi-invasive” brain electrodes – essentially turning them into living mini robots.

The history first-time experiment is already underway, and it sees the rats rewarded for the tasks they complete with food and snacks
The company director, known only as P Shiva Prasad, said: “This is the first time India had engaged in developing such technology.
“Some foreign nations already have it – it will help armed forces in Intelligence Surveillance and Recovery (ISR) operations.
“Phase one trials, in which the rat will be controlled through commands of the operator, are underway, and in phase 2, scientists can actually feed images into the camera mounted on the head for the rat cyborg to find.
“An example of its use could be a situation like the 26/11 terror attack in which more than 200 rooms of a hotel had to be searched.”
The 26/11 attack took place in Mumbai and saw 10 members of the Lashkar-e-Taibi Islamist terror group kill 166 people across three days at various cafes, hotels, hospitals and cinemas.

More than 300 people were injured, and an entire hotel had to be searched to make sure nobody else was still there once the horrific situation had come to its conclusion.
Cyborg rats are already used in China.
An investigation into them in Futurism said: “The computer-aided rats were compared to individual, regular rats measuring things like steps, coverage rates, and time-spent solving the maze.
“The results showed that the computer allowed the rat cyborgs to communicate, and it aided the rats in figuring out the shortest path they should take to complete the puzzle, steer clear of dead ends, as well as find their way through loops.”
