‘What’s happening please? I’ve missed calls from my little ones school about them being unwell. They had to call my elderly mother nearly 40 miles away. Luckily we could FaceTime still,’ one user wrote.

‘What’s the ETA of it being fixed please? I have important phone calls throughout the day and being a new customer this is definitely not the service I expect,’ another added.

And one vented: ‘Not great really, when trying to get hold of people urgently when I’m out and about. I’m assuming that there will be some sort of recompense for the inconvenience caused.’

‘Not the service I expect’: Affected users took to Twitter to vent their frustration with Sky Mobile

Sky Mobile provides television and broadband internet services for UK users – but it’s been experiencing issues this afternoon

‘We are aware that some Sky Mobile customers are experiencing issues with making and receiving calls right now,’ Sky tweeted. ‘We are investigating the issue and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing’

Yet another customer posted: ‘I am not able to make any outbound calls nor am I able to receive inbound calls. I believe your network has failed!’

And another said: ‘Our business uses sky mobile and we are losing customers because they can’t call us and we can’t call them!!!!’

The outage comes just one month after Vodafone experienced a seven hour outage that left thousands unable to access the internet.

Hotspots were in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff, although social media users in other locations also complained of problems.

A Vodafone spokesperson said: ‘We have now fixed the issue impacting just over 1% of our home broadband customers today.

‘Customers should already be seeing their connectivity return. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to anyone impacted today, and can confirm this was an isolated incident.’

Five tricks to cut broadband costs

Switch provider

Save money at the end of your contract — new customers often get cheap introductory offers which can mean you pay up to 90 per cent less than with a standard tariff.

Broadband customers who switch away from the ‘big four’ providers (BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media) typically save as much as £190 on their bill; those with a TV and broadband deal could save over £200.

Always haggle

Call to challenge your bill and save an average of £85 a year. Customers of the major providers usually save most, with the average Three customer shaving £45 off their bills.

Avoid price rises

Consider switching to a provider that doesn’t have price rises baked into its contracts.

Hyperoptic, SSE, Utility Warehouse and Zen Internet never hike prices midway through a contract.

Bag extra discounts

Some providers offer mobile and energy deals or discounts on other services. For example, EE, Virgin Media and Vodafone offer discounted mobile phone deals, while SSE and Utility Warehouse often offer cheaper broadband and energy bundles.

Refer a friend

Many broadband providers offer bonuses if customers refer a friend. These usually come as a gift card, but some providers offer bill credit or money off your tariff.
