Threads has confirmed that a major update will soon be available, less than a week after its record-breaking launch.
An alternative feed will soon crop up on Meta’s new app, allowing users to scroll through content they follow in chronological order.
This would be a drastic switch from its current options, with just one homepage that displays a blend of recommended posts and ‘threads’ from those followed.
It would also make Threads even more like its rival Twitter which currently allows users to toggle between a curated feed and followed-only content.
The move was confirmed by Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, who replied to a Threads post by technology YouTuber Marques Brownlee last week.

Features that could soon come to Threads
Mr Brownlee wrote: ‘As long as the big bosses are on here actively listening to feedback… a home feed just for people you follow would be [hand with index finger and thumb crossed emoji].’
Meta’s founder Mark Zuckerberg gave this a thumbs up before Mr Mosseri commented: ‘On the list.’
The anticipated chronological feed option would put Threads in line with Meta’s other social media apps, Instagram and Facebook.
This feature returned to Instagram just last year – marking six years since it was ditched in favour of a curated feed.
The u-turn was a popular decision among Instagram’s loyal users, with some voicing how ‘tired’ they were of ‘interacting with people’s three-day old posts’.
But this is not the only feature expected to be put on Threads, which reached 100 million signups over the weekend.
Just yesterday, Mr Brownlee recommended another change to the new platform that was once again acknowledged by Mr Mosseri.
‘Threads needs an easy spot to find a post you saw earlier,’ Mr Brownlee wrote.
‘You can like things, but there’s no spot to view what you’ve liked. And search only shows accounts right now, not posts. I saw a great post earlier from someone I wasn’t following and now it’s gone.’
Mr Mosseri replied: ‘It’s on the list.’

A few days ago, Mr Mosseri acknowledged that a number of other basic features were currently missing on the app.
This includes the ability to use hashtags, message other users and look at trending posts.
Users also realised they couldn’t permenantly delete the app without sacrificing Instagram too – with both platforms intertwined.
Instead, Instagram’s guidance suggests that ‘you can always delete individual posts’, set a profile as private or just block other users.
In response to this, Mr Mosseri wrote: ‘I’ve been getting some questions about deleting your account.
‘To clarify, you can deactivate your Threads account, which hides your Threads profile and content, you can set your profile to private, and you can delete individual threads posts – all without deleting your Instagram account.
‘Threads is powered by Instagram, so right now it’s just one account, but we’re looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately.’
Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, clarified the situation surrounding of account deletion
In a separate post, he added that it would ‘take time’ to introduce other basic features to Threads.
‘The real test is not if we can build up a lot of hype, but if you all find enough value in the app to keep using it over time,’ he said.
‘And there are tons of basics that are missing: search, hashtags, a following feed, graph syncing, fedverse support, messaging maybe…
‘We’re on it. The (amazing) team is cranking away. But full disclosure, it’ll take time.’
