Never-before heard details of what happened at Roswell 74 four years ago today could be released over the next few years, a UFO expert claims.
The incident on July 8, 1947 was a night in which many witnesses saw an unidentified flying object crash into a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico.
It was later identified as a US airforce balloon, though many still speculate that aliens crash-landed and the US government hatched a plan to cover it up.
This conspiracy theory was further reinforced when a retired lieutenant colonel said the balloon story was a cover-up for reports of the "flying disk" in the 1970s.
Among those who believe there is more to learn about that happened that day is the researcher of "unidentified aerial phenomena" Rony Vernet, who claims we could learn more details of what witnesses saw that night now the US government have said they are to be more open with the public about alien encounters.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, Mr Vernet said: "I think that in fact there was a big event in Roswell that involved the crash of a craft of unknown origin that perhaps had biological entities inside it.
"On July 8, 1947, Roswell Air Force Base Command initially notified the press that a flying saucer had crashed on the site, and second because there are many important and very reliable witnesses, including US Army officers such as Jesse Marcel and Philip Corso.

"Eventually you might have some of these witnesses including details that never existed and adding to the story, but I really don't think they would make it all up for nothing as there is so much more to lose than to gain from it.
"Soon after, the army changed the version of the facts, attributing the debris found to those of a balloon.
"Jesse Marcel himself said decades later that there was no chance he was confused about the material that had characteristics very different from something conventional."

The expert from Brazil claims similar incidents have happened in his home country, and shared the English translation of report documents to his Twitter following last month.
The document shows Brazil Police may have encountered a UFO back in November 2008, with several eyewitness accounts of a hexagon-shaped object flying in the sky.

Reporting officers also described seeing "humanoid creatures" disappearing into the fields. Moments after the encounter, authorities report that the area had a power cut.
But they claimed to see luminous creatures in the reeds the next day – following the disappearance of three UFOs.
Accounts of the phenomena were backed up by 10 eye-witness accounts from attending officers but the creatures were never identified.
Mr Vernet said he hopes that politicians discussing these sightings and becoming more open about these encounters can help us build a greater understanding of what is out there in the universe.
He added: "Today we have politicians, military and intelligence officials talking openly about it, we have President Obama making statements never seen before that there is indeed something in the skies that cannot be explained.
"I think the next few years will be amazing because of the revelation that we will have of the true reality in which we are inserted."
