A woman thought she was “going nuts” when she spotted a squirrel puffing on a vape stick.

The rebel rodent was enjoying its new found habit from a tree, causing social worker, Sammy Barker to do a double take.

The 33-year-old from Wallasey, Wirral had taken her three-year-old nephew, Leo Morris to a nearby Merseyside park when something strange caught her eye.

She said: “I was in the park with my nephew playing on the swings and we were watching a couple of squirrels playing and running around the trees.

“I spotted one on the ground eating something which at first, I thought at first was a giant red pepper.

“As I got closer I thought I was going nuts (excuse the pun).”

Sammy added: “The squirrel then ran up the tree with a bright red vape and sat on the branch with it between his feet, suckling on the end of it.

“I was so shocked and was concerned for the squirrel as I thought several tokes of the vape might make him sick.

“We sat and watched him for a few minutes until he climbed further up the tree with the vape still in hand.

    “I couldn’t believe my eyes.”

Although worrying for the rodent's health, Sammy's shocking squirrel sighting wasn't quite as alarming as fright one man got in the middle of the night.

An alligator burst into a couple's home setting their dog off barking until they grew concerned burglar was eyeing up their valuables.

Don Schulz bolted out of bed in nothing but his underwear and grabbed a gun before investigating the noise in his New Iberia home in Louisiana, US.

Rather than pulling his pistol out on a thieving intruder, Don discovered his dog was barking frantically at a five-foot long alligator.

The reptile had made itself at home after creeping through Don and partner Jan's dog flap last Saturday, June 24.
