The Orion spacecraft is all set to splashdown to Earth today, completing a three week journey around the Moon as part of NASA’s Artemis programme. The capsule will make its triumphant return at a splashdown site near Guadalupe Island, in the Pacific Ocean, south of the primary landing area. The successful return of the Orion will pave the way for a crewed test flight in early 2024 — and subsequently humanity’s return to the Moon after more than 50 years. While the Artemis I mission was uncrewed for this test flight, the Orion cpasule is expected to carry astronauts on its next mission, provided the spacecraft returns home successfully.
