Woman wins £270k scratch card on way home from collecting £90k lottery prize

One lucky woman managed to bag a staggering £270,000 on a scratch card while on her way home from collecting another £90,000 lottery win.

The 70-year-old woman, who has decided to remain anonymous, went to collect her first prize from Delaware Lottery Games Headquarters in Delaware, US, on October 20.

The lottery said she was "thrilled to discover she was a $100,000 (£89,500) winner after scratching two $100K ULTIMATE CASH Instant Game ticket[s] she purchased from Speedy Gas in Newark."

She also told officials "it was her biggest win since she began playing the Delaware Lottery seven years ago".

The woman went to collect her first prize about a week after the big win, and decided to buy another scratch-off ticket on the way home to celebrate.

She then discovered she'd won a whopping $300,000 (£269,000).

She described the moment she realised she'd won the two top prizes as "absolute insanity".

The Delaware State Lottery said: "The woman's lucky day wasn't over just yet. On her way home, she decided to celebrate by purchasing three SERIOUS MONEY tickets from N. Dover Tiger Mart in Dover. Amazingly, one of the tickets turned out to be a $300,000 top prize winner."

The woman said: "My best friend was the first person I told about winning the $100,000 top prize, and she came with me to claim it."

She added: "When I scratched the $300,000 winning SERIOUS MONEY ticket later in the day, we just sat there in disbelief. It was absolute insanity."

The Delaware State Lottery said: "The pair soon returned to Lottery Headquarters to claim the woman's $300,000 top prize, making her total winnings for the day $400,000 (£358,000), and October 20, 2022, a day she won't soon forget."

Helene Keeley, Acting Director of the Delaware Lottery, congratulated the pensioner on her incredible luck.

She said: "Congratulations to this lucky player on her unique double win. It's great to see our players bring home six-figure prizes, and Instant Games continue to surprise and delight players throughout the state."

The lottery officials said that the woman plans to put most of the prize money into her retirement fund.

They added: "When asked if there was anything else she wanted to share about her win, the woman said, 'Just that I love scratching Instant Game tickets!'"
