World’s worst waxwork museum leaves social media users baffled

Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela and Elvis Presley are among what might be the world's worst celebrity waxwork museum.

A church in Brazil has reportedly opened its own tourist attraction but visitors are likely to be queueing up for all the wrong reasons.

It is unlikely Madame Tussauds' expert sculptors will be left fearing for their jobs after taking a peek at the rather unrecognisable faces on show at a new South American site.

A local news report of the waxworks has had viewers in stitches as prominent figures of the Catholic church are remembered beside the likes of Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe.

Twitter user David Paxton shared the news footage from UNITV with the caption: "A Brazilian church decided to do its own mini waxwork museum.

"So the news turned up and did a piece. And now I’ve lost my s***. The commentary really makes it."

Someone commented on the Princess Diana waxwork: "This is more offensive than any debate about an episode of The Crown will ever be."

Another wrote: "I will never see Ayrton Senna the same as he used to be."

Other late stars include German scientist Albert Einstein, Indian lawyer Mahatma Gandhi and former US president John F. Kennedy.

"My god these are bad. My jaw hit the floor on 'Elvis Presley" and I nearly fell over when she said 'Nelson Mandela'," one person said.

Some waxworks have even been said to look more like a different dead celebrity than the one they are meant to be.

Medieval historian Dr Áine Foley wrote: "You know if they said Elvis was Johnny Cash I would have said it was a pretty good likeness. Marilyn Monroe is going to give me nightmares though."
