49ers 1st-round pick Trey Lance gets emotional watching heartfelt message from family

Trey Lance was the the San Francisco 49ers' surprise pick at No. 3 at the NFL draft on Thursday night. The team's decision to draft the North Dakota State quarterback was kept a secret from pretty much everyone in the organization, and you can tell how happy GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan were to have gotten their man after trading so much to move up to the No. 3 spot.

"Welcome to the #49ers buddy. So happy to add you to our family."

Lance couldn't stop his feelings from showing when he answered the call from the Niners, but he was even more emotional later on when he watched a video from his parents and younger brother. They told him that it didn't matter to them when he's drafted or by which team, because they're so proud of him for the man he's become and for everything he's already accomplished in his life.

Lance could barely hold back the tears when his parents were talking, but he really lost it when his younger brother, Bryce, shared his message. Bryce, who committed to NDSU back in December, thanked Trey for taking the time to check in on him when he was away at college, and for always being there for him.

"I remember growing up, we were always close, and that hasn't changed. Especially in your years going to college, I'll never forget all the times that you made time for me, to FaceTime me or check in on how I'm doing. It's really a blessing and special and obviously you are a blessing in my life. I'll never forget the things you've done for me, both on the field, on the court, and off as well. You really are my biggest inspiration, and whatever team you go to, you will definitely make a difference."

When the video was over, Lance flashed his great sense of humor.

"You didn't tell me it was gonna be like that!"
