The accused killer who was mistakenly released from Rikers Island because of a clerical error has been captured after more than a month on the lam, law enforcement sources told The Post Friday.
Christopher Buggs, 26, who was awaiting trial in a 2018 Brooklyn murder, was nabbed just after noon in the Bronx near White Plains Road and 221st Street, the sources said.
It’s not immediately clear if he was hiding in a home, what he’s been up to or how cops tracked him down.
Buggs was released on March 10 when someone saw a new, unrelated criminal contempt charge in his record and thought he was to be released, not realizing he should have still been held on the murder charge.
Corrections officials waited 12 hours before they informed the NYPD of their mistake — and four staffers, including an assistant deputy warden, were suspended without pay as a result.
Buggs is accused of murdering Ernest BrownLee, 55, during a dispute outside of a bodega in 2018, cops said.
