The three men who allegedly hunted down and killed Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia last year have been hit with federal hate crime and attempted kidnapping charges for the slaying, officials said Wednesday.
A federal grand jury in the state returned an indictment charging Travis McMichael, his father, Gregory McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan, with interference with rights and with one count of attempted kidnapping, the Justice Department said.
The father-son duo were also hit with one count each of using, carrying, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, according to the statement.
The trio allegedly hunted down Arbery while he was jogging near Brunswick in Glynn County in February 2020. Travis then allegedly shot and killed him.
The federal charges are on top of state raps the trio face, including murder and false imprisonment.
