Fans of Nemesis at Alton Towers have declared ‘life will never be the same’ after it was revealed the much loved ride would be shutting in November.

The theme park announced this morning that its flagship rollercoaster will close on November 6 to ‘undergo an exciting revamp before returning in 2024’.

In a social media post, it said: ‘By order of the Phalanx, Nemesis is closing. You have until November 6 to ride.

‘Please make your way to Alton Towers Resort in an orderly fashion.’

Posters have gone up around the park to announce the closure of Nemesis on November 6 ‘by order of the Phalanx’

The theme park said the ride was closing in order to ‘undergo a revamp’ and will reopen in 2024

Meanwhile, visitors were alerted to the plans after posters appeared throughout the theme park.

The posters announced the closure by order of the Phalanx, a special organisation ‘assembled to control the alien Nemesis beast by laying the rollercoaster track over it back in 1994’.

Details of the transformation are being ‘kept under wraps’, but park officials said more information will be revealed nearer the time.

A planning application was submitted earlier this year to undertake ‘major maintenance work’ on the ride, according to Stoke-on-Trent Live.

This, they said, includes the replacement of large swathes of the track ahead of the attraction’s 30th anniversary.

Alton Towers announced that the ride would be shutting earlier this morning on social media

Signs have gone up around Alton Towers to inform people that Nemesis will close in November

Kate McBirnie, head of product excellence at Alton Towers Resort, said: ‘Nemesis is Europe’s first ever inverted rollercoaster, which has been exciting thrillseekers since 1994.

‘The legendary rollercoaster is loved by thrillseekers across the UK and beyond, and we want to give fans of the ride the opportunity to experience Nemesis in its current form before it closes on November 6.’

Fans of the loop-the-loop said their day was ‘ruined’ upon hearing the news.

Taking to social media, one person said: ‘Nemesis is closing??? Wednesday ruined’.

Another added: ‘ALTON TOWERS ARE CLOSING NEMESIS NO ONE TALK TO ME THIS IS THE WORST NEWS’.

A third posted: ‘Alton Towers are closing Nemesis. Life will never be the same’.

Social media users have reacted to the news that Nemesis is closing temporarily at Alton Towers

The rollercoaster cost £10 million to build and was named Europe’s first inverted rollercoaster when it opened in 1994.

Riders experience 3.5 G-force as they race past the rocks and rivers of the theme park’s Forbidden Valley at speeds of up to 50mph.

It carries dangling thrill seekers along numerous twists, turns with four inversions.

Alton Towers said the ride has attracted people ‘from across the globe to the Staffordshire theme park’.
