Anguish for Meredith Kercher's family as her killer enjoys slap-up restaurant dinner during 72-hour prison release for good behaviour

KILLER Rudy Guede tucks into a slap up restaurant dinner after being given a 72 hours release pass for good behaviour.

Guede, 29, was originally sentenced to 30 years for the brutal sex murder of British student Meredith Kercher but this was later reduced to 16 years.

His latest taste of freedom is the third this year and also the longest – he is not due back in his cell until Tuesday afternoon.

In pictures posted on Tusciaweb, Ivory Coast drifter Guede can be seen taking advantage of his freedom from Viterbi's Mammagialla prison, enjoying a pizza dinner with family and friends at Il Richiastro, a restaurant in the town.

Guede was arrested in 2007 and charged with Amanda Knox and her then boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito for the killing of Meredith, at her flat in Perugia, Italy.

He opted for a fast track trial and was convicted in 2008 of murder and sexual assault after his DNA was found at the crime scene but on appeal his sentence was reduced.

Knox and Sollecito were also originally convicted, then cleared, then convicted again before being ultimately acquitted off the murder but Guede has always insisted they took part.

In fact Italy's Supreme Court ruled when acquitting the pair in 2015 that although no evidence could be proved showing they took part in the murder there was ample evidence placing Knox and Sollecito at the scene.

Guede's lawyers have asked for a retrial and a decision is expected later this year – although he could be released on parole by next summer as officials at Viterbo jail say he is a ''model prisoner''.

Despite Knox trying to set the record straight in the Netflix documentary, many questions still hang over this case

He has constantly stressed his innocence insisting Knox was present at the murder and since being jailed he has obtained a university degree in history.

A source close to Meredith's family, who live in Coulson, Surrey, said: ''They find it quite shocking that someone sentenced for 16 years for their daughter's murder is out on the town with friends.''
