Shocking moment one-legged Arizona man, 60, and his dog are attacked by 1,000 KILLER BEES and stung over 250 times: Ordeal only ended when firefighters hosed the insects off

  • John Fischer, 60, and his dog Pippin were attacked on Saturday in Eloy, Arizona
  • Fischer was stung more than 250 times and his dog more than 50 times
  •  Surveillance video showed the moment the bees attacked the pair

An Arizona man and his dog are recovering after being stung hundreds of times by a swarm of 1,000 killer bees.

The ordeal on Saturday evening only came to an end when they were hosed down by responding firefighters in their neighborhood.

John Fischer, 60, who lost one of his legs to infection about eight years ago, was in his wheelchair-exercise bike, with his dog Pippin by his side, when they were attacked.

Surveillance video obtained by Arizona Family showed the harrowing moment the insects went after the pair, causing Fischer to topple over in his chair as he crawled trying to escape.

Later, when he shook out his clothes from the day in front of cameras, dozens of bees poured out. There was one still alive, but Fischer ran it over with his wheelchair – in a moment of seeming retribution.

Fischer was left with stings on his arms, eyes, mouth, ears, legs and back, as well as scrapes from crawling on the ground. He was released from the hospital Monday and is recovering at home with his dog.

Fischer told Arizona Family that he had ‘never experienced anything like this before.’

‘I had been stung many times before but nothing where it was more than 10 or 15 stings,’ Fischer said as he recalled the attack.

‘There was a part of me that wanted to freak out, and there was a part of me that wanted to panic. And I knew, from past experience, that that’s where you’ll lose it. And you’re no longer in control. That’s where you run into more danger,’ he added.

Fischer was in his wheelchair out for a stroll in Florence, Arizona, when he said he felt what he thought was a fly and swatted it away.

‘Next thing I know, there were bees all over me and all over the dog,’ Fischer said.

‘I tried to get across the street, but I can’t see ’cause they’re going towards my eyes, and they’re all over my face.’

He was able to release Pippin, who had been leashed to his wheelchair, and the dog ran to Fischer’s neighbor.

But the chair tipped and Fischer tried to escape on his hands and knees.

‘I crawled my way for a period of time to try to get far away from where they were, but they, of course, just followed me,’ he said.

Firefighters showed up to help Fischer, but were seen on video fleeing from the swarm of bees. They returned moments later and hosed down Fischer.

He was taken to the hospital, where Fischer said doctors told him he had been stung more than 250 times by the ‘killer bees.’

He said Pippin was stung over 50 times and has since been released by an animal hospital but is still in bad shape.

‘He’s sick,’ Fischer said. ‘We’re trying to get him to drink. He is very sore, and what I can see is he’s pretty lethargic. We’re also giving him Benadryl, so that’s going to knock him out.’

He started a GoFundMe to help raise money to help with the dog”s vet expenses.
