Green Sprouts, a manufacturer of eco-friendly baby products, is recalling its stainless steel cups and bottles over a lead poisoning hazard, according to a voluntary recall issued on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website last week.
The recalled products are Green Sprouts’ six ounce Stainless Steel Sippy Cups, Sip & Straw Cups and its eight ounce Stainless Steel Straw Bottles. Approximately 10,500 units are affected.
The tracking codes printed at the bottom of the bottles are 29218V06985, 35719V06985 and 33020V06985, according to the CPSC.
The bottom base of the products can become detached, exposing a solder dot that contains lead, according to the CPSC. Lead is a toxic metal that can cause poisoning if ingested by children, the CPSC said. Lead poisoning symptoms in children can range from abdominal pain and vomiting to developmental delays and learning difficulties, according to the Mayo Clinic.
There have been seven reports so far of the base breaking off the bottle, but none involving an injury or illness, according to the CPSC.

Green Sprouts said the third-party testing lab it contracts hadn’t reported the lead in the product because “this part of the product is inaccessible under normal use.”
“Had we been aware that a component containing lead in these products could become accessible, we wouldn’t have put them on the market,” Green Sprouts said on its website.

The products were sold at Buy Buy Baby and Whole Foods stores across the country, and online at Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond and Buy Buy Baby from January 2020 to September 2022 in the $14 to $19 price range, according to the CPSC.
