Biden blasted as 'tyrant' over push to ban assault weapons as GOP Rep Lauren Boebert touts '2nd Amendment is absolute'

PRESIDENT Joe Biden has been blasted as a “tyrant” by Colorado Rep Lauren Boebert over his push to ban assault weapons as she claimed the “second amendment is absolute.”

The Republican took to Twitter on Thursday to push back after the president ordered a gun crackdown, including increased background checks.

Her comment came just hours after a mass shooter in Bryan, Texas, killed one and injured five others.

“The Second Amendment is absolute. Anyone who says otherwise is a tyrant,” Boebert wrote.

She later quoted George Mason in stating: “To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them.”

“Democrats & their allies seek to enslave and control the people of the United States and every aspect of their lives,” Boebert said.

“Only learn what they approve of, say what they agree to & work when permitted.”

Joe Biden announced new gun control measures on Thursday with an executive order that will aim to trickle down on gun violence that has plagued the nation in recent weeks.

Addressing reporters in Washington, DC, the president gave a speech about Gun Violence Prevention.

He was joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and Attorney General Merrick Garland when he announced that he wanted a national red flag law, background checks for gun owners, and closing dangerous loopholes.

Biden said he will work to help prevent community violence, have the DOJ issue write up the annual report of firearms trafficking, and also nominated David Chipman to direct the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF).

The president started off by praising lawmakers "who are absolutely determined to get this done" but cautioned that country has "a long way to go."

"Nothing I'm about to recommend impinges on the Second Amendment” he said, and declared that it was "bizarre" and a "phony argument" to suggest otherwise.

"You can't yell fire in a crowded movie theater and call it free speech," Biden said.

"Gun violence in this country is an epidemic and it is an international embarrassment."

Biden lamented that so many Americans have experienced "when seconds change your life forever" during a mass shooting.

The Biden administration has been under increasing pressure to regulate guns after there were three separate mass shootings in the US during the second half of March.

A shooting at a Colorado supermarket left 10 people dead, a shooting rampage at Atlanta-area spas left eight dead, and four people died in a shooting at a Southern California office building.

Yet his administration still faces major push back from Republicans determined to protect their access to firearms.

Boebert has previously said that she would "carry my Glock to Congress" and remains steadfast in her opposition to firearm reform despite more than 100 mass shootings in the US so far this year.

She also joked that she would hide her guns from Biden "upstairs" after the president slipped on the steps of Air Force One.

She hit back at claims that the mass shooter in Colorado last month could have been stopped by gun reform.

Ahmad Al-Issa killed ten people in a supermarket in Boulder on March 22 with an assault-style weapon.

"There are no gun laws that wouldn't have stopped Ahmad Al-Issa from killing 10 Americans in cold blood,” she said on Twitter.

Just hours after the shooting, Boebert’s campaign also sent a fundraising email in which they said “HELL NO” to gun control measures.

The email claimed that “radical liberals” were “trying to violate your due process and criminalize the private transfer of firearms."

"Gun laws just don't work—it's unfortunate,” she added in an interview with Newsmax.

“We need good people to neutralize threats and defend themselves, and the people around them to protect them."
