  • The 27-year-old went missing in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday morning

The body of missing Goldman Sachs banker John Castic has been discovered two days after the Manhattan financier vanished from a Brooklyn nightclub.

A significant police presence was seen at Newtown Creek, around half a mile from the Brooklyn Mirage, as remains were hauled from the water at around 1pm Tuesday.

Several large NYPD vessels and rigid inflatable speedboats were first seen in the water shortly after 11:30am, with police confirming several hours later that the body was Castic.

The 27-year-old banker from Chicago vanished after telling friends he was getting an Uber home to his apartment in the early hours of Sunday.

The discovery comes just weeks after another man was found dead in the same creek after vanishing from the same Brooklyn venue.

Castic’s cause of death has not been revealed.

John Castic, 27, was last seen leaving the Bushwick-Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn at 2:30am on Sunday morning. His remains were discovered midday Tuesday

A heavy police presence was seen in Newtown Creek, near the Brooklyn Mirage, Tuesday morning

Police confirmed the body was Castic several hours after it was found midday Tuesday

Police were reportedly first on the scene at around 11:30am, and a small raft was seen retrieving the body just before 1pm.

In a statement to DailyMail.com, the NYPD said: ‘On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at approximately 1109 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an aided individual in the Newtown Creek located in the vicinity of 1100 Grand Street, within the confines of the 90 Precinct.

‘Upon arrival, officers observed an unidentified and unconscious male floating in the water. NYPD Harbor units removed the aided male from the water.

‘EMS also responded to the location and pronounced the aided male deceased on scene.

‘Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the aided male has since been identified as John Castic. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.’

Castic was last seen at around 3am Sunday, and cops confirmed Tuesday that his body had been discovered

The Chicago-born financier’s body was found around half a mile from where he was last seen

Castic was born in Chicago and studied at DePaul University before moving to New York City to work in finance

Karl Clemente was last seen at Brooklyn Mirage on June 11, and his body found in a nearby creek on June 16. Police do not believe his death to be suspicious, but are investigating

Castic graduated from DePaul University and began working as a senior analyst at Goldman Sachs in August 2022.

He and his friends had been to see Canadian electronic duo Zeds Dead the night he disappeared, with the final photo of him shared to social media showing him arriving at the Brooklyn Mirage at around 9pm Saturday.

His friends say he left the venue at 2:30am, and he told them he was planning to get an Uber ride back to his apartment in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Castic’s death comes just weeks after another 27-year-old man disappeared from the same venue, the Brooklyn Mirage, in a case with eerie similarities.

Karl Clemente was with a group of friends on June 11 hoping to get in to the Brooklyn Mirage at around 9pm, but was turned away by doormen on suspicion of having been drinking.

He left and headed to a nearby gas station, where people often wait to get drinks and snacks before calling Ubers or Lyfts home. He then disappeared.

Clemente’s body was found in a creek behind a lumber warehouse on June 16. Police said they do not believe his death was suspicious but are still investigating.
