Boy, 15, 'spent half an hour throttling his mum to death in row over him getting a D grade then got his mates to make murder look like botched burglary’

A SCHOOLBOY spent half an hour throttling his mum to death before burying her body under a church fire pit after they rowed about him getting a bad grade in class, prosecutors say.

Gregory Logan Ramos, 15, then asked his mates to stage his house to make the murder look like a burglary gone wrong.

Ramos has confessed to strangling architect Gail Cleavenger, 46, at their home in DeBary, Florida.

It's understood he argued with his mother about getting a D-grade until 11pm on Thursday  – then woke her up at 12.30am to kill her, Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. Gail died at 1am.

Chitwood added: "He went into her room and began strangling her and strangled her till he killed her."

During his confession Ramos said he used a wheelbarrow to move her body into the family van and then he drove to River City Church 1.5 miles away where he buried her in a fire pit.

After burying the body eight inches deep, Ramos returned home and went to school, but left early in order to establish his alibi.

He then got two of his friends – Dylan Ceglarek and Brian Porras, both 17 – to kick in the door of his home and take items.

Ramos then reported his mum missing and said there was a van with its engine running sitting in his driveway.

Chitwood said at a press conference: "He [Ramos] then got home and made a Grammy-winning phone call to 911 to talk about this horrible incident that did not really occur."

The sheriff said Ramos told them what had really happened after initially claiming his mum dropped him at school on Friday morning.

Detectives became suspicious and later found items including a PlayStation 4, computer, shovel, rifle and a broom used to sweep the area where Gail was buried.

Her body was exhumed on Saturday.

After their argument, Gail had called Ramos' dad, Danny Cleavanger, to tell him about their son's D-grade at school.

He found out about her death when he returned from a business trip on Friday night.

Chitwood said of Ramos: "

He is a soulless individual who thought he was going to outsmart everybody in this room.

"To watch how cold and callous and calculating he was, I think was probably the most shocking thing of all for us.

"No remorse whatsoever.

"It is one of the most disturbing and saddest cases I've seen in my career."

Ramos appeared in court yesterday, where he was denied bail and remanded in custody.
