Boy, 16, is blasted in the chest with a shotgun on a residential street as neighbours report hearing woman scream ‘you shot my son!’

A teenager has been seriously injured after being blasted in the chest with a shotgun in a residential street.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) descended on Langdale Avenue in Stretford this afternoon a 16-year-old boy was reportedly shot.

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, which took place at around 4.30pm, a woman was heard screaming ‘you shot my son’ as a group of people ran from the scene, according to the Manchester Evening News. 

Emergency services rushed to the street as people living nearby ran inside their home – the boy was taken to hospital where he remains with a serious but non life-threatening chest injury.

A police cordon has been put in place while investigations take place and GMP has stepped up patrols in the area.

A witness told the MEN they had seen a ‘mixture of kids and adults’ outside a property with some of them running away down an alley after the incident. 

They added: ‘I heard a woman scream and she shouted “you shot my son”. I went to call an ambulance but could already hear the sirens.’

Another resident of a nearby street told the publication: ‘Shortly after 4pm I heard what sounded like a gunshot, followed by shouting and screaming. A lady on the street screamed to her kids to get inside.’

Detective Inspector Matt Dixon from GMP Trafford district said: ‘I would like to reassure the local community that we have increased the number of patrol officers deployed to the area and we are working at pace to understand the full circumstances surrounding this incident.

‘Most importantly, if you have any queries about this incident or you have any wider concerns about issues in your area, please speak to one of our officers in the area who are on hand to support you.

‘We would urge the public to come forward if they have any information that could assist our investigation, and if they have any CCTV, doorbell, or dash cam footage, to report it to us directly.

‘We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area before, during, or after the incident, who may have seen something. No matter how small the information may seem, it could prove vital.’
