A 17-year-old boy has tragically died after fireworks were "hurled" down a street in West Yorkshire.

He was rushed to hospital following scenes of carnage but sadly couldn't be saved by medics.

An eyewitness described the scenes as "horrendous", with fireworks "hurled" in the street at the time the teen was found injured, reports YorkshireLive.

He was reportedly found badly hurt in the garden of a house on Vickerman Street, Halifax.

West Yorkshire Police put a cordon in place and say the force has referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police were called by the ambulance service just before 8.15pm on Saturday, November 5, following reports of an injured male in the garden of a property in Vickerman Street, Halifax. A 17-year-old male was taken to hospital where he died.

"Scene is open and force has referred itself to the IOPC as police had been called to the street beforehand due to fireworks being set off."

West Yorkshire Police also had to deal with firework-lobbing in Leeds last night (Saturday, November 5).

Riot police were seen wearing helmets and holding shields as they attempted to break up the madness.

The force released a statement confirming that three arrests were made following a chaotic bonfire night in the city's Hyde Park.

A force spokesperson said: "Police were called to the Alexandra Road area of Hyde Park, Leeds, shortly before 7.30pm on Saturday night (November 5), after a fire was started in the street and several fireworks were set off.

"Three people were arrested on suspicion of arson."

Terrified residents watched from behind their blinds as the calamity raged on.
