Boy, 5, suffers horror injuries after being mauled in face by babysitter's dog that has attacked kids THREE TIMES

A LITTLE boy suffered horrific facial injuries after being mauled by a babysitter's dog that has reportedly attacked children three times.

Liam Pruitt, five, was savagely attacked by a terrier-mix at a babysitter's home in Ohio in April.

He was at the property with his younger brother Knox, two, while mom-of-four Tristin, 31, attended an ultrasound appointment.

The babysitter’s husband reportedly wanted to introduce Liam to the dog before it savaged the child's face.

The dog had reportedly attacked two other children but they didn’t warn parents Tristin and Jeff, 33, about this.

Liam’s right eye was bleeding and his cheeks were punctured by the dog's teeth.

Eight nurses were needed to subdue Liam so they could clean his tear duct, and the boy required three-and-a-half hours of plastic surgery to close the wounds on his face and neck.

The success of Liam's healing relies heavily on him staying out of direct sunlight.

Doctors think Liam will need three to five years of possible treatment.

As it was a third party that was at fault for the injuries, the insurance company claimed it was ‘similar to a car accident’ and it was the job of the other party's insurance to cover the costs.

The cost of pain medication alone came to over $15,000.

When she first discovered his injuries, Tristin said her world “shattered”.

She said: "Liam had no idea how bad it was and I held it together for him. I played it very calm and soothed him but on the inside, I was terrified.

“I didn’t cry or let Liam see me upset until they took him away for surgery.

"When they took my boy, I couldn’t comfort him anymore and I lost it. I was terrified and livid."

Tristin found out that the dog was unvaccinated – potentially putting Liam at risk of diseases such as rabies.

The mom says Liam has developed intense mood swings as he lashes out angrily by throwing things and screaming.

He is now too scared of dogs to go to friends homes.

She said: “I remember Liam’s smile and eyes lighting up the room and how he used to love running around outside, especially with his friends in the summer.

"He loved school and learning and when it was time to sit down he could focus so well.

“A few months ago he didn’t have an angry bone in his body but now he has nasty mood swings he never had before and we can’t even go out to dinner without him acting out.”

The stay-at-home mom added that the stress of the incident has meant she has been unable to enjoy her last pregnancy.

Tristin said the couple is "playing catch-up financially" as she had to drop out of school and Jeff missed weeks of work.

There are approximately 4.5million dog bites every year in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Liam's family has set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover medical expenses.
