Brian Houston claims wife Bobbie made redundant from Hillsong

Hillsong founder Brian Houston has hit out at the church, accusing it of “losing its soul” in an angry social media post in which he claimed the church had made his wife Bobbie redundant.

Houston shared a screenshot on Instagram of a message that reads: “Dear Bobbie, I wanted to text to let you know I will sending you an email shortly regarding your employment.”

“Please let me know if you would like to talk about it or if you have questions,” the message reads.

The name of the sender is rubbed out.

The image shows the start of Bobbie’s response, which begins: “I don’t even have words to express how cold and callous this has all become.”

The image then cuts off the rest of the message.

Brian Houston wrote that his wife had received the communication making her redundant after “39 years of exemplary service.”

“Are we supposed to act like this is all OK? It’s not!” he said. “Our beautiful church is losing its soul.”

Hillsong Church was contacted for comment.

Bobbie Houston’s apparent exit from the church completes the power couple’s fall from grace inside the evangelical organisation, which they founded in the 1980s, and which has grown into a global mega church that rakes in between $80-$100 million in revenue a year.

Last month, 68-year-old Brian Houston stepped down as the global senior pastor of the church after he was found to have breached its moral code in his behaviour with two women.

Hillsong Church accepted Houston’s resignation, but praised both Brian and Bobbie for their faithful service.
