Shocking footage has shown a convict kissing a prison guard in his cell – before bragging “that’s what I wanted”.
Kevin Hogg, who is locked up in HMP Addiewell in West Lothian, Scotland, secretly filmed himself having a passionate clinch with warder Rachel Wilson.
The footage shows him opening the door to Wilson before engaging in a brief conversation.
Hogg, who is serving three years for traffic offences, then locks lips with the prison guard for six seconds.
When they are finished, Hogg is heard saying: “That’s what I wanted.”
Prison chiefs have called in police to investigate the footage and told Daily Record that Wilson no longer works at HMP Addiewell.
The clip has been shared around several Scottish prisons by inmates having been filmed in recent weeks.
It was first feared the inmate set up the recording to “blackmail” Wilson but prison insiders claim it was filmed to give the prisoner “bragging rights” among other cons.
A whistleblower told Daily Record the privately-run prison has been hit hard by severe staff shortages, inexperienced staff, poor training and corruption.
The whistleblower claims several officers have been caught bringing in contraband such as drugs and mobile phones for prisoners.
There is no suggestion Wilson is one of these officers.
A source at the prison said: “If this was an unwanted approach then she’d have pressed her panic button but she didn’t. It’s clear from the video she wasn’t coerced or frightened. She is a willing participant.
“Rachel Wilson has only been a PO since spring and was still on her probation period.”
It is not known if Wilson and Hogg are in a relationship or if this was a first-time kiss.
“The bosses are furious,” the source added. “But this is just indicative of how Addiewell is being run.
“There are officers bringing in contraband, new recruits turning up to work dressed for clubbing instead of correctional work. Hair extensions, eyelashes, tight clothing … and it’s winding up the prisoners.
“We’re talking about men who are locked up, separated from their wives and girlfriends, and young prison officers are turning up like it’s a beauty contest – not a prison full of dangerous men.”
They alleged corners are being cut due to staff shortages and that “prisoners are ruling the roost”.
They claimed prisoners have been left unlocked at night and are free to roam, leading to the few staff that are working feeling vulnerable – particularly female members.
“The Scottish Prison Service needs to take over the running of Addiewell before a prison officer is killed,” the source added.
A spokesman for HMP Addiewell said of the video: “This matter has been referred to the police and the individual no longer works for the prison. We are unable to comment any further.”
Responding to the other allegations by the whistleblower, they said: “We are committed to running a prison that is safe for all who live and work there.
“We take any whistleblower allegations very seriously and have processes to ensure these are swiftly looked into and whistleblowers’ rights are protected.
“Procedures are in place to ensure proper security levels are maintained and areas risk assessed.”
