British boat sinks off coast of Greece with 17 people on board

A rescue mission has been launched after a British-flagged boat sunk off the island of Milos in Greece.

The Greek coast guard said 17 passengers are on the vessel, with several ships and a navy helicopter assisting the operation.

The boat had a British flag but the nationalities of the passengers could not be immediately verified.

A danger signal was sent from the boat this morning, although the full circumstances of the incident remain unknown.

Mayor of Milos, Manolis Mikelis, said: ‘We have information for 17 people, we are in the process of collecting people from the sea.

‘At the moment there is wind in the area and it is making a lot of waves, we were told about a yacht.

‘With every reservation, the boat has been overturned.’
