A British woman has been found dead in Cyprus in the home she shared with her partner – with investigators ordering an autopsy to shed light on the fatality.

The 38-year-old woman, who has not been named, is understood to have been found ‘with bruises all over her body,’ according to local media.

The Cyprus Mail reported that the woman’s partner informed local authorities of the death.

He told police that he found the woman when he returned to their home on Wednesday afternoon.

She was found at around 4.30pm at their apartment in Kato Paphos, western Cyprus, police said.

Investigators, including forensic officers, collected evidence from the scene for scientific examination, head of Cyprus police Michalis Nikolaou said.

Cyprus Mail said initial examinations found the woman had bruises all over her body and periocular hematomas (otherwise known as a black eye) in both eyes.

Her body has been transferred to the Nicosia general hospital morgue, where an autopsy was set to take place at 1.30pm on Thursday.

Investigators are hoping that the results will shed light on how the woman died.

Police are continuing their investigation.

MailOnline has contacted the British foreign office for comment.
