California has sent out $1.6BILLION stimulus checks – Here's what to do if you haven't received yours yet

SOME Californians haven't received one of the $1.6billion stimulus checks rolled out in The Golden State.

Since April 15, around 2.5 million relief payments have been sent out but people who haven't gotten one yet could still be eligible.

The statewide direct payment plan, created to help low-income residents and people who didn't qualify for the federal check, allowed the Franchise Tax Board to roll out $600 or $1,200 payments.

If you are eligible and still waiting on your state stimulus check, simply make sure to file your taxes.

Firstly, to qualify, you need to be a California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) recipient earning less than $30,000 per year, or file your taxes with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).

If both of these apply, your Cali check will amount to $1,200, reported Newsweek.

People who filed by March 1 will continue to get their payments as the rollout continues, while people who filed by April 23 will start receiving theirs from May 1.

But it can take up to two weeks to get a direct depoist and a whopping six weeks for those of you waiting on paper checks.

However, people who filed after April 23 may be waiting a while longer: it could take a whooping 45 days for a direct deposit and as many as 60 days for a physical check.

California Franchise Tax Board advises people who filed before that date to give them a 45-day grace period but if that time passes, contact the agency directly or via their website.

Governor Gavin Newsom said: "We passed the recovery package to get money into the pockets of Californians who were hit hardest by this pandemic.

"And that's exactly what the Golden State Stimulus is doing—already getting $1.6 billion to 2.5 million Californians."

State Controller and Franchise Tax Board Chair Betty Yee said: "The Golden State Stimulus will provide a measure of relief to California taxpayers deeply affected by the pandemic.

"This stimulus, combined with the California Earned Income Tax Credit, will provide hundreds or even thousands of dollars to many individuals and families in need."
