Calm before the storm: Victoria prepares for more floods

Victoria is bracing for storms and floods later this week as some parts of the state are forecast to cop up to 100 millimetres of rain.

The deluge is expected to start on Wednesday and peak on Thursday.

Premier Daniel Andrews will visit the State Control Centre on Tuesday, where he will join Minister for Emergency Services Jaclyn Symes and Emergency Management Victoria Deputy Commissioner Chris Stephenson. The media has been told the premier will make a “storm preparedness announcement”.

Despite the wild weather that has been forecast, there was calm before the storm in Melbourne on Tuesday morning with mild and calm conditions and the temperature pushing towards a forecast of 22 degrees.

But the Bureau of Meteorology is concerned rainfall of up to 100 millimetres across Wednesday and Thursday could cause major flooding in Victoria, particularly in areas that were drenched by heavy rain last week.
