Cannibal who killed, ate and ‘removed balls’ of Grindr date Kevin Bacon jailed

A man will spend life in prison after he killed his Grindr date, mutilated and ate part of his body, and hanged his corpse from the ceiling.

From Michigan, USA, 52-year-old Mark Latunski was told by the judge his crimes were premeditated and heinous, and that he will have no chance at parole.

It fell to the judge to determine whether his crime was murder of the first degree or a different kind of homicide after he entered a guilty plea last month for the 2019 killing of Kevin Bacon, 25.

Shiawassee County Judge Matthew Stewart said: “The court finds that this is a crime of cold calculation.

“Kevin Bacon's death was Mark Latunski's design."

In the USA there is a mandatory sentence of life for people who commit first-degree murder.

In the Bennington Township, around 90 miles to the northwest of Detroit, Latunski is understood to have eaten parts of Bacon’s body but was initially deemed to have been unfit to stand trial.

After treatment for his mental health, his case went to court, where his defence attorney Mary Chartier claimed first-degree murder was the wrong punishment for her client.

She noted Latunski had been visited by law enforcement four days after Bacon had been reported missing and allowed officers to enter his home despite the body still hanging in the basement.

The visit was on December 28 – four days on from when Bacon was seen by loved ones.

Ms Chartier said her client “did not measure the consequences at all”.

Latunski is thought to have hung Bacon from the rafters of his basement by his ankles.

Court footage from MLive shows Latunski coming clean to his crime and admitting the horrific acts he committed.

The prosecutor asks: “'Did you know that stabbing Mr Bacon with a knife would most certainly create a very high risk of death or great bodily harm to Mr Bacon?”

To which he replies: “Yes I did.”

He admitted he caught his date by surprise, stabbing him in the back before admitting to removing his victim’s testicles and taking them to the kitchen.

Ms Chartier said: “While this is not an outcome that [defence attorney] Mr Krause and I think is in Mr Latunski's best interest, we do have to follow Mr Latunski's wishes.

“We have discussed this matter and consistently he's been very clear, more than once, multiple times, on his choice and on his reasoning.”
