The man then sexually assaulted her as she crossed the road before walking away on nearby Merri Street, according to Victoria Police.

Investigators have released CCTV footage of a man they wish to identify, walking along an empty Brunswick shopping strip.

The footage shows a man who police say is perceived to be in his mid-20s, about 170cm tall with light brown crew cut hair and a receding hairline.

The man was wearing a red Nike brand hoodie jumper with the slogan ‘Just do it’ printed across the front as well as a blue surgical mask.

The 30-year-old victim is expected to speak publicly about the incident later on Thursday morning.
