Charles Bronson says he’s ‘coming home’ ahead of hearing over life sentence

Notorious prisoner Charles Bronson, 69, has warned he is "coming home" and that his upcoming parole hearing marks "my time".

Bronson is scheduled for a public parole hearing, with the infamous criminal making it clear that he wants the decisions made at his hearing to be public for all to hear.

The 69-year-old prisoner is doing so as he wants to make sure that his case is no longer swept "under the mat," as he put it in a recently-penned letter.

Bronson, who changed his name to Charles Salvador back in 2014 in reference to the artist Salvador Dahli, has spent nearly 50 years locked up.

In a letter written from Woodhill Prison, Bronson said: "I’ve nothing to hide from the media or public. It’s this vindictive system that runs from the truth.

"I’m the first to admit I probably deserve a good 30 years caged up and all the brutality against me. But this last 20 years has been nothing but revenge – to make an example of a man they forever label an out of control lunatic. This is my time now."

The infamous criminal was first arrested at the age of 22 for armed robbery, with the initial seven-year sentence extended because of a series of attacks on guards and other prisoners.

He was placed back behind bars shortly after his release in 1987, and has stayed there ever since.

It is not yet known how the public hearing will play out, with the parole board unable to legally accept the request until July 21 when the law for public hearings for prisoners changes.

During an interview last March, Bronson said he believed he was "closer now to getting out" than ever before.

The Mirror reported Bronson saying: "When I go out on the yard that’s my hour of freedom. I’ve got a big smile, I’m happy. I’m walking out as fit as the day I came in. I’m coming home."
