Child struck by falling tree in Jefferson County dies, sheriff’s office says

A young child who was struck by a falling tree in Jefferson County Friday morning has died, the sheriff’s office said in an update several hours after the incident was reported.

South Metro Fire Rescue received a call around 8 a.m. for the report of the tree falling on the child in the 6300 block of South Jay Street.

The child had to be transported to the hospital, according to Eric Hurst with SMFR. Jacki Kelley with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the child’s injuries were serious.

“With heavy hearts, we’re sad to report that the 4-year-old boy who was struck by a fallen tree has died from his injuries,” the sheriff’s office tweeted just before 2 p.m. Friday. “This was nothing more than a tragic accident on S. Jay Way in south #Jeffco.”
