Chilling details in anonymous letter lead cops to girlfriend of murdered man after her botched robbery claim

A WOMAN has been arrested over the 1996 death of her boyfriend after cops were sent an anonymous letter that implicated her in the bloody crime.

Christopher Harvey, 22, was stabbed to death 26 years ago in the apartment he shared with his then-partner Jade Benning.

At the time, Benning, then also 22, claimed a black suspect broke into the apartment in Santa Ana, California, and attacked him.

But police had a breakthrough in the cold case in January 2020 when investigators received a letter that suggested Benning was involved in the crime.

She was arrested on Tuesday near her home in Austin, Texas, and was taken into custody after an extensive follow-up investigation, including forensic testing.

Agents from U.S. Marshalls Lone Star Fugitive Task Force took her in to custody while officers from the Santa Ana Police Department were there to witness it, according to a Law and Crime article.

“The victim was stabbed numerous times in the upper torso,” police said in a statement obtained by Law and Crime.

“The girlfriend, Jade Benning, made general statements about the incident.

Benning initially told police that the suspect had broken in while they were sleeping.

She claimed to also have minor injuries from the robbery attempt.

Another witness initially told police that they saw a man running from the building.

However, the couple's neighbors, at the time, told officers that they heard a loud argument go on for about 15 minutes.
