Christmas bars in Denver: Why you should visit a holiday bar

Editor’s note: This is part of The Know’s new series, Staff Favorites. Each week, we will offer our opinions on the best that Colorado has to offer for dining, shopping, entertainment, outdoor activities and more. (We’ll also let you in on some hidden gems).

Trying to have a festive night out this holiday season? Your seasonal options are very specific and seemingly endless.

Miracle on Pecos Street, Miracle on Pearl Street, Miracle on Main Street, Miracle at Pindustry, Miracle at Union Station, Sippin’ Santa, Holiday Suite, Felix Navidad, Happy Camper’s Christmas, Snowdrift, The Krampus Room and more are all open for business.

But after a recent visit to one of the holiday bars, my date and I decided we’d had enough halfway through our first round. For $15 a drink, I much prefer a more subtle setting and some slightly less cloying cocktails.

So here’s the real reason I go to a holiday bar: the glassware.

As a tray of drinks passed us when we first arrived, I pointed to one, showing my boyfriend a dinosaur-shaped mug, “SanTaRex.” And less than an hour into our Christmas bar experience, I asked for the check and some “naughty and nice” shot-sized Santa mugs to go.

I’ll use them to sip on something more to my taste, at home.
