A CIRCUS performer airlifted to hospital after he crashed during a stunt during a circle cage motorbike stunt at a show in Devon.

Emergency services rushed to the seaside town's Imperial Recreation Ground where Circus Funtasia has been entertaining the crowds for the last few days.

It is understood the crash happened during a daredevil performance in which three motorcyclists ride as fast as they can inside a metal sphere.

Spectators said they feared something serious had happened after seeing so many emergency services vehicles head out past their homes towards the circus big top.

One spectator who was in the crowd enjoying the circus show said: "There was an accident while we were watching the circus with the motorbike riders.

“I don’t think details are needed. It wasn’t nice for children. I just hope the guys are ok."
