Cody Fisher update: 2 men arrested over 'murder' of footballer who was stabbed to death on dancefloor at Birmingham club | The Sun

TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Cody Fisher, who was stabbed to death at a Birmingham club.

A 22-year-old was held at an address in Birmingham city centre just after midnight while a second man, 21, was arrested in London.


Footballer Cody, 23, was fatally knifed on the dancefloor of the Crane nightclub in Birmingham in front of screaming revellers on Boxing Day.

Loved ones paying tribute have been describing him as the "purest soul", "wonderful" and a "best friend".

West Midlands Police said in a statement: "We’ve arrested two men on suspicion of the murder of footballer Cody Fisher, who was stabbed to death at a nightclub in Birmingham on Boxing Day.

"A 22-year-old was held at an address in Birmingham city centre just after midnight, while a second man aged 21 was arrested in London.

"They will be questioned on suspicion of the murder of Cody, who was stabbed on the dance floor of the Crane nightclub on Adderley Street just before midnight on Boxing Day.

"He died at the scene."

Despite emergency services fighting to save Cody, he was pronounced dead around half an hour after cops were called to the scene.

Officers added that they were "really pleased" with the public's response to their investigation into the death of Cody.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Ingram, from West Midlands Police, said: "We're making good progress in our investigation and are building a better picture of what happened.

"We've been really pleased with the response from the public and have already had a number of witness accounts and images sent through, which will help with our investigation.

"It's vital that we hear from everybody who saw any part of what happened that night – no matter how insignificant they think it might be.

"Cody's family and friends are devastated by what happened, and we'll continue to work to bring them answers."

Friends and family paid tribute to the footballer after his tragic death.

Grieving girlfriend Jess wrote online: "My poor baby. I'm so sorry this has happened to you.

"My whole world, the love of my life, my best friend has been taken away from me.

"I don't know how I'm going to do life without you Code. There is so much we will never get the chance to do now.

"This doesn't feel real. I love you forever Cody Fisher."
